Interior Design Trends 2023
Here, we’ve rounded up five design trends spotted at the show that we believe will be big in 2023…
Very Berry
From hot pinks spotted on the catwalks at Paris fashion week to Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Vivid Magenta, bright berry tones are already being touted as the colour for 2023. And the highly anticipated release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film this summer means we’re only going to be seeing more and more pink as the year goes on. Vibrant shades offer a refreshing change to interior design moodboards, while deeper red tones like Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year, Raspberry Blush, provide a punchy, yet slightly subtler style that may lend itself to a wider range of interior schemes.
Shining down
No longer reserved for traditional, opulent homes, chandeliers are this year’s must-have design piece. Whether your style is classic or contemporary, you can elevate your own space with a statement lighting fixture. “Choose a design that looks just as good turned off as it does on,” says Eleanora Cunietti from design studio Carden Cunietti. “Be daring with the colours and shapes of your chandelier so it will look as good off as it does on and can truly be the centrepiece in the room.” Pure White Lines raised the bar at Decorex this year with an array of bold and beautiful lighting designs and were duly awarded best stand at the show which featured a stunning Seventies-inspired glass Astoria Chandelier.
Talk of the table
With dinner parties back in full swing in a post-pandemic world, we’re no longer only decorating our tables for the festive season alone. Birthdays, Easter, or even summer solstice – whatever the occasion may be in 2023 tablescaping can play an important part in it. This is all about taking your table setting to the next level with decor, including beautiful glassware and crockery, pretty candles and patterned tablecloths, plus an array of decorative details to bring it all together. We’re taking inspiration in abundance for this trend from the Diningscape feature at Decorex – crafted by leading interior designers Christian Bense, ND Studios, Pandora Taylor with Bonadea and Bertrando di Renzo with Les Ottomans.
Pattern play
While intricate, hand-printed wall coverings have long had a place in period properties and been popular in trends gone by, strikingly beautiful designs are making a comeback into modern homes. The likes of Cole & Son, Divine Savages and Graham & Brown have shown just how you can turn your walls into a work of art with floral designs and botanical prints, with many designer brands bringing back prints from the archives. The difference this time around? It’s down to how creatively you apply the rolls. Patterned wallpaper doesn’t just have to be fitted on a feature wall – it can be placed all around the room, in-between panelling and even on the ceiling!
Arts and Craftsmanship
A resurgence in bespoke, artisanal makes for the home are set to be a big trend for 2023. Home Fix Boutique put a spotlight on makers with Making Spaces this year, showcasing what goes on behind the scenes of bespoke designs and highlighting what it means to have pieces in your home that are unique and tell a story. “Conscious design is a movement happening right now,” explains Brian Woulfe founder of Designed By Woulfe “We’re making more considered choices, and are interested in where and how products are made before purchasing.” This is not only from an eco-conscious mindset, but from a growing appreciation for handmade pieces.
