Penthouse Decor

ELLE DECOR unveils a fully decorated duplex penthouse in New York, at the 53 West 53 in Manhattan, styled by A-List designer Joe Nahem. Combining the talent of dozens of artisans, Nahem created a stunning world within the space. Artemest is honoured to be part of the project, with a selection of one-of-a-kind furniture, decorative and lifestyle pieces.

ELLE DECOR partners with A-List interiors firm Fox-Nahem Associates to open the doors of the duplex penthouse located inside 53 West 53: a striking condominium tower rising 1,050 feet above the Museum of Art in Midtown Manhattan.

Joe Nahem, the designer who fully styled the penthouse, drew inspiration from the impressive scale and proportions of the spaces, including the massive ceiling heights, spectacular views from every room and Thierry Despont’s bespoke finishes. Keeping the beautiful sculptural frame of the duplex in mind, Fox-Nahem carefully balanced the furnishings, fabrics, rugs, one-of-a-kind artisan pieces and museum-quality artwork to ensure the various design elements were complementary and harmonious.

Stepping off the private elevator directly into the penthouse, residents are welcomed by a gracious private entry foyer. Here is where both sides of the lower level are connected. Proceeding to the left, there is the penthouse's dramatic double-height great room enveloped by three walls of floor-to-ceiling windows framing panoramic Central Park views. A further mentionable feature that remarks the charming design of the penthouse is the variety of multi-textural furnishing and accessories. The combination contributes to create a fascinating dynamic and layered space.

Focusing on the specific spaces and their carefully curated details, the great room features an 11-foot wide gas fireplace and from there, residents will find the formal corner dining room, also with stunning Central Park and eastern skyline views. Another outstanding side of the penthouse is the windowed custom kitchen, characterised by an impressive design. A pair of colourful pendant lights and a vibrant breakfast table add a playful contrast to the sleek, white finishes

Beyond this room, a generous bedroom and an en-suite bathroom are adjacent to a chic south-facing lounge with an expansive downtown skyline and water views. A beautifully appointed powder room completes this level, with stunning artwork and pieces placed throughout the hallways.

Accessible either via the dramatic interior staircase or the private interior elevator, the 77th floor boasts equally impressive design within quieter, more private spaces. The primary suite offers panoramic views spanning north towards Central Park, south, and east; a large walk-in closet and an oversized en suite bath with radiant heated floors and south- and east-facing exposures. An additional bedroom on this level offers south- and west-facing views and a windowed en-suite bath clad, while a stylish TV room and windowed library nook complete the upstairs level.

We’re very proud of the result of this collaboration: an apartment that is as elegant and artful as it is playful and liveable.
